MYLIFE WISHLIST

MylifE Heart project – “Coach”

We have been working with local children from the forestry villages in the region, they spend most weekends with us and ride the bicycles we have been sponsored and assist us on the land. Every Wednesday Ryan, who is our star boxer from Cape Town http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2fTm_QPYtk runs a fitness programme for the kids at the local school. This is the only outdoor, physical activity and team building the children get. There is absolutely no sport development and the children of the region are mad about rugby, horse riding and cycling.

You will see Ryan’s wish list – he would like to be in a position to nurture the children from our base and offer after school fitness and sport programmes. Baby steps ……

These are the projects that we would love the resources for, they are also income generators for MylifE. .

Carpentry

We have a large wood resource on the property for fuel, building and furniture. We have been sponsored 3 STIHL chainsaws, our guys have done the course and we cut all our own wood. The Wattle is being dried for firewood and right now, furniture. These are the tools that will make our lives so much easier and allow more income generators to emerge.

Wattle Clearing

We have a property that has been taken over by wattle, we make it part of our daily schedule to each clear 100 wattle trees, which are all recycled. The tree popper ensures that the root of the wattle tree is also removed. In 2months we have cleared over 1000 wattle trees.

Youth

The property has also been invaded by bramble which has seen each one of us ripped to pieces – we plan to manage the bramble as it is a “super food” source and potential income generator. The youth need protectiv

e clothing to achieve this and save their clothing.

Fencing

We have a 3.8 hectare property and a large amount of the fencing has been destroyed which means daily visits from cows, pigs and goats and baboons – on one hand their manure is a blessing for our compost, when they ate Manie’s vegetable garden it wasn’t so cool. We would like to immediately fence off our living area, food and proposed Stables. We will be using wattle for the poles. The electric fencing is to contain the pigs so they will eat the bramble and regenerate the soil for planting.

Tunnel Garden

We would like you to go onto Living Seeds website and choose seed for a tunnel garden we will build and create for you! This can also be documented and shown, like everything else, at the next Ard Matthews and Friends benefit and by then the tunnel will look like something out of Avatar.

Tool-shed

Already have a few donations, including the Chainsaws. We require all this equipment for our daily activity of food, water and warmth and the sustainability of the MylifE intern and Youth Centre. To date we have hosted BEN’s Bicycle Network, Ntaba Ka Ndoda Youth, Youth and Children of the Amathole Region for the O Magazine and MylifE 10th Year Birthday –made by Charley’s Bakery, Rhodes University, Engineers Without Borders, Middle Earth, Lance Greyling (DA), Professor Tobie Louw, local elders and community members.

Reservoir

One of our proposed projects with Engineers Without Borders is WATER, the other the UDDT Toilet system which is being implemented this month. Hogsback has abundant water and it must be preserved, we are of the 0.5% of Afromontane Forests left in South Africa. We are fed water from a 4 meter waterfall and Hydro pump, which feeds a water tank and reservoir, which is in dire need of mending. We are planning Aqua systems for the water and the land and to harvest every drop which feeds the orchards (40 fruit trees) the raspberries and your tunnel garden. We also have a wetland which houses the Hogsback toad, and needs a lot of work to preserve it, thinking of planting bamboo and rice – plus we have at least 2000 bees o the property waiting for hives.

Intern Accommodation

MylifE is in the process of partnering several Eastern Cape NGO’s and role players, the plan is to use MylifE’s headquarters in Hogsback to Pilot 1 of three Villages in 2013. The interns will be dispersed through the region servicing our partnerships with the youth in Ndaba Ka Ndoda. The Intern Centre has three rooms, which will house 6 bunk beds, 2 single beds and a double bed. We also have an outside cottage which will house a further 2 single beds. The beds are being made from wattle and are going to look beautiful. We also have 5 double roomed tents which will house skilled Israeli and Marketing executive from Germany joining us in November to handle tree house and mud hut construction and social networking.
